A hybrid anaerobic solid-liquid bioreactor for food waste digestion   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
A hybrid anaerobic solid-liquid (HASL) bioreactor is an enhanced two-phase anaerobic system, that consists of a solid waste reactor as the acidification reactor and a wastewater reactor, i.e. an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor as the methanogenic reactor. Food waste digestion in HASL bioreactors with pre-acidification and HASL operation stages was investigated in two separate runs. After 8 days of pre-acidification in Run A and 4 days in Run B, total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentrations in the leachates of both acidification reactors were similar. During HASL operation stage, TVFA and COD removal in the methanogenic phase were 77–100% and 75–95%, respectively. Some 99% of the total methane generated was from the methanogenic phase with a content of 68–70% methane. At the end of operation, about 59–60% of the added volatile solids (VS) were removed with a methane yield of 0.25 l g–1 VS.  相似文献

The NADPH-dependent reduction of some photosynthetic electron carriers in the dark, and the reduction of NADP+ associated with the glycolytic sequence and the oxidative pentose phosphate pathway in chloroplasts are reviewed. The postulated pathways of electron transports sensitive and insensitive to antimycin A are also evaluated. It is proposed that the electron flow, predominantly through cytochrome bf complex, may be also involved in the pathway of NADPH-dependent and antimycin A-insensitive back electron transport. An information on the chlororespiration in higher plants is also included. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Then, the mechanism of alcohol dehydration elucidated by direct observation of reaction intermediates by solid-state NMR and the very high activity of Cs2.5H0.5PW12O40 are described. Abstract. Under natural conditions where gaseous exchange between soil and atmosphere is restricted by excess water, the concentration of O2 in the rooting zone can become very low while reduced ions and organic compounds that are potentially phytoxic may accumulate. Mechanisms by which shoots and roots detect, and adjust to, this O2-deficient environment are reviewed. Injury to roots and their inability to function because of insufficient O2 is communicated to the shoot in a variety of ways, so that it adjusts physiologically. Roots may acclimate metabolically to a gradual fall in O2 supply, so that they either improve their tolerance of anoxia, or partially avoid O2-deficiency by structural changes that aid internal transfer of O2 to the roots from the shoot. Molecular mechanisms regulating such metabolic changes, including environmental cues, are discussed.  相似文献

Cardiolipin (CL) is a unique dimeric phospholipid that exists almost exclusively in the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM) in eukaryotic cells. Two chiral carbons and four fatty acyl chains in CL result in a flexible body allowing interactions with respiratory chain complexes and mitochondrial substrate carriers. Due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, CL is particularly prone to reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced oxidative attacks. Under mild mitochondrial damage, CL is redistributed to the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM) and serves as a recognition signal for dysfunctional mitochondria, which are rapidly sequestered by autophagosomes. However, peroxidation of CL is far greater in response to severe stress than under normal or mild-damage conditions. The accumulation of oxidized CL on the OMM results in recruitment of Bax and formation of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP), which releases Cytochrome c (Cyt c) from mitochondria. Over the past decade, the significance of CL in the function of mitochondrial bioenergy has been explored. Moreover, approaches to analyzing CL have become more effective and accurate. In this review, we discuss the unique structural features of CL as well as the current understanding of CL-based molecular mechanisms of mitophagy and apoptosis.  相似文献

Peroxidase oxidation of o-dianisidine, 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine, and o-phenylenediamine in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), an anionic surfactant, was spectrophotometrically studied. It was found that 0.1–100 mM SDS concentrations stabilize intermediates formed in the peroxidase oxidation of these substrates. The cause of the stabilization is an electrostatic interaction between positively charged intermediates and negatively charged surfactant.  相似文献

Biodegradation of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) was shown in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor under thermophilic conditions. The reactor was inoculated with granular biomass and fed with a synthetic medium and 3 micromol/L of a mixture of LAS with alkylchain length of 10 to 13 carbon atoms. The reactor was operated with a hydraulic retention time of 12 h with effluent recirculation in an effluent to influent ratio of 5 to 1. A sterile reactor operated in parallel revealed that sorption to sludge particles initially accounted for a major LAS removal. After 8 days of reactor operation, the removal of LAS in the reactor inoculated with active granular biomass exceeded the removal in the sterile reactor inoculated with sterile granular biomass. The effect of sorption ceased after 185 to 555 h depending on the LAS homologs. 40% of the LAS was biodegraded, and the removal rate was 0.5 x 10(-6) mol/h/mL granular biomass. Acidified effluent from the reactor was subjected to dichloromethane extraction followed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Benzenesulfonic acid and benzaldehyde were detected in the reactor effluent from the reactor with active granular biomass but not in the sterile and unamended reactor effluent. Benzenesulfonic acid and benzaldehyde are the first identified degradation products in the anaerobic degradation of LAS.  相似文献

The synthesis of small glycoclusters with high affinity toward lectins is one of the important subjects in glycotechnology. Although cyclic α-(1→6)-d-octaglucoside (CI8) is an attractive scaffold on which to put glycosyl pendants, the compound has only secondary hydroxyl groups, which are relatively unreactive for substitution reactions. The oxidation of the vicinal diols of CI8 and reductive amination of the resultant dialdehydes with 2-aminoethyl mannoside gave mannose-CI8 conjugates with a variety of average mannose incorporation numbers (2-7). The average numbers were deduced from MALDI-TOF mass and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The binding ability of mannose-CI8 conjugates to concanavalin A increased with the increasing numbers of average mannose incorporation, reaching a plateau at tetravalence, as estimated from a latex bead-based agglutination lectin assay. Toxicity tests demonstrated the biocompatibility of mannose-CI8 conjugates.  相似文献

Thermoanaerobacter brockiifermented serine to acetate and ethanol. It oxidized leucine to isovalerate, isoleucine to 2-methylbutyrate, and valine to isobutyrate only in the presence of thiosulfate, or when co-cultured withMethanobacteriumsp. This oxidative deamination was rendered thermodynamically possible by the ability ofT. brockiito reduce thiosulfate to sulfide or the transfer of reducing equivalents to the hydrogenotrophic methanogen. The results suggest thatT. brockiimay be of ecological significance in thermal environments in the turnover of amino acids, especially with thiosulfate or H2-utilizing methanogens are present.  相似文献
